One of the basic differences between public relations and sound public involvement is a process where citizens have the opportunity to define their specific information needs in order to have useful input to public decision making processes. Different parts of the community have different information needs directly related to their unique interests. Examples include; sight-impaired and other disabled citizens with questions about how their special needs might be met, the biking community with questions about how an integrated system works for people who bike for portions of a transit trip, and taxpayers with questions about cost and benefit trade-offs.
