Following the successful completion of this project earlier this year, a group of citizens and city officials told HRCCE that they'd like to see Envision Transportation become an ongoing effort to bring citizens and their local government together to continue to learn about and analyze possibilities for the future of transportation in Virginia Beach.

Name: Citizen Voices on Transportation

Primary Purposes: To provide civic engagement and education connected to multi-modal transportation in Virginia Beach

Other Purposes:

  • • To inform governance with input from citizens
  • • To affect, influence and enhance the process
  • • To increase the citizen-to-citizen work on transportation decisions
  • • To be a trusted, honest and transparent broker
  • • To identify communication and information needs
  • • To do fact-based work and become knowledgeable about transportation Issues and possible solutions
  • • To work with the City or other organizations to plan and convene variousforums and mediums for routine information exchange
  • • To seek and encourage citizen input
  • • To collaborate with government while remaining separate from government
  • • To work with City and other organizations to eliminate barriers to public
    participation


Membership:

  • • To seek legitimacy and access to "partners," - appointments by Mayor
  • • Opt-in means by attending multiple times and being recommended to Mayor
  • • Members required to support the civic engagement and education purposes
